Nestled in the calm, quiet and modest city of Rosamund, CA lays an unusual compound. This compound is home to some of nature’s most exciting, vocal and exotic creatures. Welcome to the Cat House. “The Cat House” is shorthand for Exotic Feline Breeding Compound’s Feline Conservation Center. Founded in 1977, the Cat House began with ten to fifteen animals but is thriving today with over seventy of the world’s most endangered felines. From Thelma and Louise (a pair of Canadian Lynx) to Shrek (a rare sand cat) to Jango (a tiger) the spacious and beautiful compound allows the felines to live their best lives
The Cat House is a non-profit organization which runs on dedication of gifted volunteers and donations from the public. There is a popular misconception that the organization is a rescue facility, which in fact the goals of the compound are breeding and research. One of the best parts about the Cat House is they allow visitors! For admission of $10 per person, one can visit from the hours of 10am to 4pm each day of the week except for Wednesdays. It is also closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The establishment also offers a unique experience called “The Twilight Tours” where one can visit the compound at night when the cats are most active.
