DESERT CHRIST PARK

Location: Yucca Valley, CA
Accessibility: Easy

Created: 1951
Desert Christ Park is a unique outdoor sculpture park located in Yucca Valley, California. The park features over 40 sculptures, including depictions of biblical scenes and figures, created by local artist Frank Antone Martin. The sculptures are made from concrete and range in size from small to towering figures that can be seen from miles away.

The park was established in 1951 by Martin, who was inspired by the beauty of the surrounding desert landscape and his desire to create a space that would inspire reflection and contemplation. The park's central figure is a 35-foot-tall statue of Jesus, which can be seen from the highway and is a symbol of the park's mission to bring faith and hope to those who visit.

Visitors to Desert Christ Park can take a self-guided tour of the sculptures, which are spread out across the park's 3 acres of desert landscape. The park is open year-round and is free to the public.

In addition to the sculptures, the park features a chapel, a meditation garden, and a gift shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs and artwork created by local artists. The park is also home to a small museum that showcases the history of the park and the life of Martin.

Desert Christ Park is a testament to the beauty of the California desert landscape and the power of art to inspire and uplift. The park's sculptures, with their depictions of biblical stories and figures, offer visitors a chance to reflect on their faith and connect with the natural world. The park's founder, Frank Antone Martin, saw the park as a labor of love and a way to share his faith and vision with the world. Today, the park remains a beloved destination for visitors from around the world who come to experience its beauty and serenity.
