Location: Hesperia, CA
Accessibility: Easy
Built: 1991
The Cal-Earth Institute, located in Hesperia, California, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting sustainable and affordable housing solutions using earth architecture. The Institute was founded by architect Nader Khalili in 1986, who was inspired by traditional building methods used in Iran and other parts of the world.

The Institute is known for its innovative approach to building, which utilizes materials such as earth, sandbags, and recycled materials to create durable and sustainable structures. These buildings are not only environmentally friendly, but also cost-effective and easy to construct.

The Institute offers a variety of educational programs, including workshops and classes, that teach students how to build using earth architecture techniques. Students are taught how to use natural materials and traditional building methods to construct homes and other structures.

The Institute has also developed a number of building techniques and designs, including the Superadobe system, which uses sandbags and barbed wire to create sturdy and earthquake-resistant buildings. The Superadobe system has been used in a variety of projects around the world, including disaster relief housing in Haiti and Indonesia.

The Cal-Earth Institute is a leader in the field of sustainable architecture and is dedicated to creating innovative and environmentally friendly solutions to the world's housing needs. Through its educational programs and outreach efforts, the Institute is working to spread awareness about the benefits of earth architecture and to inspire a new generation of builders and designers to create sustainable and affordable housing solutions.
